“He’s like Hudson version, can’t fit into Tuchel system” – Former Man City star slams Chelsea bidding for £50m star
Anthony Gordon, a forward for Everton, has been purchased by Chelsea in an unexpected move.
However, The youthful forward has been improving since last season and is a developing star for the Toffees.
Chelsea’s £40 million offer for Gordon was turned down, and according to sources, the Blues may need to offer £50 million to acquire the Everton star.
Nedum Onuoha, a former defender for Manchester City, has criticized Chelsea’s choice to invest £50million on an inexperienced 21-year-old.
Onuoha doesn’t understand how Gordon fits into the Chelsea team since he believes that the Blues have superior forward players who aren’t getting as much playing time.
Onuoha told ESPN FC: “He’s a big prospect but it’s £50m for a prospect.”
“At the moment, I couldn’t put him into this Chelsea team and see where he fits.
“I’m looking at Hakim Ziyech, I’m looking at Christian Pulisic; they are technically really good players but they do not really take people on, and that’s one of Anthony Gordon’s huge strengths.
“Playing for Chelsea, where the expectation is to win every game, and if you don’t win two in a row it’s a mini crisis, I feel you need a strong mentality to deal with that pressure. I’m not sure Anthony Gordon at this moment in time is.
“He doesn’t fit in with this current style of play. [Callum Hudson-Odoi] is like another version of Anthony Gordon, and he can’t get into the team.”
