“He’s the next Jamie Vardy & Antoine Griezmann”: Joe cole hails incoming 31-goals a season Chelsea player

After weeks of speculation, the Blues finally confirmed that they had reached a £47.5 million deal with RB Leipzig to sign Werner, who is set to complete his move to Stamford Bridge on July 1.

However, Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has backed incoming summer signing Timo Werner to fit perfectly into Frank Lampard’s set-up in the following campaign, hailing the Germany international’s movement and finishing skills.

The 38-year-old feels that Werner bears a stark resemblance to Jamie Vardy and Antoine Griezmann for his ability to play off the shoulder of defenders and perpetual movement.

“A great player,” he says. “I’ve been watching him closely and he’s got great movement.

“He fits into the ethos of Frank’s side. A bit of Jamie Vardy about him, in the sense he plays off the shoulder, he’s got perpetual movement, he runs.

“Maybe Antoine Griezmann, a little bit of that. He’s a nine in the sense he’s always threatening in behind and he keeps moving, and he’s a very good finisher.”

Meanwhile, The 24-year-old has enjoyed the most productive spell of his professional career at Leipzig this term, registering 32 goals and 13 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, with 26 of those strikes coming in 33 Bundesliga outings.
