‘I can confirm he wants to go to Chelsea’: Harry Redknapp confirms 80M top midfielder really wants to join Chelsea this summer
According to reports, Frenkie de Jong prefers to join Chelsea this season over moving to Manchester United, according to Harry Redknapp, who spoke to The Byline.
However, Due to Barcelona’s insistence that he leave this summer, the Netherlands international is still unsure of where he will play football next season.
Due of this, United has been pursuing the Dutchman for the whole transfer window in an effort to revitalize their midfield.
Despite this, he has been hesitant to sign with the Red Devils and has cited a lack of Champions League action as the reason.
According to reports, Barcelona is apparently offering the Blues the player Xavi called “exceptional” in the hopes that he will accept a transfer to London.
Redknapp meanwhile has claimed that someone at Old Trafford has informed him that United are beginning to accept that they won’t sign the 25-year-old this summer.
He said: “Now it looks like De Jong wants to go to Chelsea. I know that for a fact. Man United are not gonna get him. I’ve had that confirmed from someone right at the very top for United, he really wants to go to Chelsea. So if Man United don’t get him, I don’t know where they’re going, but if Chelsea get him he’ll be a fantastic signing for them.”
The midfielder would no doubt be a great addition to the Blues options, with the futures of long-term stars Jorginho and N’golo Kante uncertain.
The Blues and Barcelona have seen their paths cross a number of times during this window, with Jules Kounde and Raphinha choosing to join Xavi’s side instead of Thomas Tuchel’s.
However, business could be about to continue between the sides, with Barcelona also confident that they will complete a deal for Marcos Alonso imminently.
