‘I can’t believe Chelsea sold that man out, I remember his debut! Ian Wright says of former Chelsea star
As we all know former Chelsea starlet Tariq Lamptey put in a stunning performance for the Blues in a Premier League clash against Arsenal back in December 2019.
It was his debut for Chelsea, and the then 19-year-old came on as a substitute for Frank Lampard’s side, with 30 minutes left of the game which Chelsea won 2-1.
Lamptey showed his blistering pace in that game, and caused troubles for the Gunners defence.
Chelsea would eventually sell Lamptey to Brighton in January 2020 for a meagre £4m, and the young full-back’s (can also play as a winger) value has now risen to £40m.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has admitted he has been blown away by Lamptey’s form at Brighton, and is surprised no top side has made a move for the 21-year-old.
Wright said : “I literally cannot believe no-one has tried to prise that man out of Brighton… I remember he made his debut [for Chelsea] he came off the bench against Arsenal and he was literally the best player on the pitch,”
“You’ve got to understand the only reason this guy is not playing for Chelsea is because Reece James is there. Reece James is the person that stopped him.”
