‘I needed it! Lukaku sends ‘strong message’ to Tuchel after winning man of the match against Aston Villa
Since October, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has opted against starting Lukaku, as the Belgian had been out injured and looked off the pace upon his return from injury.
However, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was in fine form against Aston Villa as he came off the bench to help Chelsea beat Villa 3-1.
Against Villa, Lukaku came on at half-time, and he changed the game as he troubled the Villa defence before scoring a goal and winning the penalty.
Well, the Belgian international believes he has sent a message to Tuchel with his fine performance.
Romelu Lukaku told Sky Sports after the Aston Villa game: “I needed a performance like this. It’s been difficult [playing a few minutes here and there].”
“The manager has his reasons but I kept working hard and today… it was good for us to win and I’m happy with my performance. Now I have to push on.
“We are the hunters now. The last few results haven’t been the best, and now we have to chase [Manchester City and Liverpool]. Every game between now and the end of the season is a final.”
