‘I think I see him in the next World Cup with his performance’ – Jermaine Jenas says of 26-year-old Chelsea player

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas was particularly impressed with Loftus-Cheek’s performance and admitted that the Chelsea academy product may not be far from an England call up.

However, The Chelsea midfielder featured from the start in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough, as Chelsea booked a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The 26-year-old had a fine display deep in midfield, as he featured in a double six role beside Mateo Kovavic.

Jenas said on BBC One: “He’s been good today, Loftus-Cheek. I’ve enjoyed watching him in this role.”

“Sometimes during his loan spells he’s played a lot higher up the pitch, but I think I like him in this deeper role. He has composure on the ball. He’s helped run the game well from that midfield position.”

He added: “It wouldn’t surprise me to see him have a late run for the next one (World Cup) as well. I think this Chelsea midfield could look very different next year.”
