‘If we let him go we shall regret it’ – Cassano reveals after player reportedly agreed terms with Chelsea
Last week, reports from Italy indicated that Chelsea had achieved an early deal to capture Inter striker Ivan Perisic, 33, on a free transfer.
Perisic reportedly requested a new three-year contract at just under £100,000 per week, but Inter only offered him a two-year deal worth around £65,000 per week, according to reports.
Perisic has continued to be an important player for Inter, scoring a brace in the Coppa Italia final as Inter defeated Juventus 4-2 in extra time to win the championship.
Speaking after that game: Perisic hinted that he’s leaving Inter.
“I don’t know anything yet,” Perisic told Sports Mediaset.
“With important players, you don’t wait to the last minute. You ought to know that too.”
Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has urged Inter to keep a hold of their winger, as reports say he’s already on his way to Chelsea.
Cassano said: “He’s had a sensational season, but has (general manager Beppe) Marotta noticed?
“If he leaves Inter are shooting themselves in the foot, he’s had the best season of his career, the club must give him a three-year contract.”
