‘It’s was a bit complicated’ – Willian finally reveals why Chelsea fans were right about his Arsenal move

The Brazilian had become a favourite among fans after joining Chelsea in 2013, but then a move to Arsenal dented his image at the club.

However, Chelsea fans were pleading with Willian not to leave the club for Arsenal.

However, The Brazilian rejected a two-year deal from the club as he wanted three years from Chelsea despite being over 30. Chelsea failed to give in to his demands and he ended up at Arsenal.

It took just one season for Willian to get tired of life under Mikel Arteta, and he terminated his contract with the Gunners after one year.

Following a 2-1 derby win over Palmeiras at the weekend, the 33-year-old explained why he felt he had to leave Mikel Arteta’s project after just one season.

“My year at Arsenal was a bit complicated. I really couldn’t adapt to the club. I wasn’t happy there,” Willian told Arena SBT, via Sport Witness.

“To make it very clear too, it wasn’t the club that wanted me to leave. I wanted to leave the club.

“I expressed my feeling [and] said I wasn’t happy. I said I wanted to look elsewhere, another place to play. And, so there was this decision to leave.”
