Joe Cole identifies ‘great problem’ for Frank Lampard after Chelsea’s win over Rennes

Chelsea did a great job to defeat Rennes 3-0, and the Blues had to do it without Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz in the squad.

For this game, Frank Lampard started Timo Werner on the left side, with Tammy Abraham starting as the centre-forward.

Chelsea spent almost £50m to sign Werner from RB Leipzig, but Abraham had a good game and showed that he could do the job as well.

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has revealed that Lampard has a problem in his hands, in that he has to choose between two in-form strikers, but admitted that it was a good problem.

Cole told BT Sport: “It would have been noted, Chelsea spending £50m on a No.9.

“He [Abraham] kept at it tonight, didn’t he? His movement for the goal was lovely.

“He didn’t do it in the first half, there was a time when he picked the wrong run but that was excellent.

“It’s a great problem for Frank because he’s got so many players now making a case. All of the front boys are scoring, midfielders are getting on the ball, he’s given Frank something to think about.”
