Journalist finally reveals why £50m Chelsea player will struggle under Graham Potter

Ben Chilwell, 25, joined Chelsea from Leicester City in the summer of 2020, and the team has had great success with the acquisition.

Chilwell has 61 appearances for Chelsea and has eight goals and ten assists.

Simon Phillips, a journalist, has questioned what sort of part Chilwell will play under the new manager Graham Potter.

The Seagulls manager has Chilwell and Marc Cucurella for the left wing-back spot, while Phillips has indicated Reece James would be a regular in the right wing-back spot but wasn’t too sure where Chilwell would stand with Potter.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Phillips said: “The other main thing is the wing-backs.

“Whereas Tuchel prefers to use full-backs as his wing-backs, Potter much prefers to use wingers at wing-back, so it’s going to be interesting there to see how and where Reece James and Ben Chilwell will fit into the team.

“I think Reece James would be fine as an attacking winger or wing-back, but I think Ben Chilwell is going to struggle a little bit more.

“Marc Cucurella obviously came from Brighton, I think he’s going to be more used as a left centre-back in that kind of system, which is where Tuchel ended up playing him anyway in recent matches.”
