Before the summer transfer window closed, Chelsea needed to add another midfielder.
On the day of the transfer deadline, the Blues acquired Denis Zakaria from Juventus after being connected to a number of targets.
The unforeseen injuries to Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson during the final hours of the transfer window also left Liverpool in need of a midfielder.
Now, Zakaria has said that he didn’t learn of Chelsea’s interest until until the end of the transfer window.
According to the Chelsea loanee, Liverpool also wanted to sign him.
The Switzerland international, while chatting with Blick recently, revealed that he had no idea he was going to join the Blues until 6 hours before the close of the transfer window.
He also said he heard from his agent that Liverpool were interested in his services, although he’d already agreed to join Chelsea.
He said, “It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window. I packed my things and waited for the contract to be signed. I then did the medical check in Turin and it went through. It was very close.”
As for the interest from Liverpool, he added: “I heard that from my agent, but in the end it was Chelsea, and I think I’ll be happier in England than in Turin.”
