Gerard Romero, a well-connected Barcelona source, has given the world an update on Cesar Azpilicueta’s transfer from Chelsea to Catalonia.
According to him, the Basque will be permitted to go once Jules Kounde has successfully signed with the Blues.
Romero stated that Azpi will “immediately join,” meaning that personal terms and maybe the agreement between clubs have been reached and that all sides are simply awaiting the outcome of Kounde before pressing the button to complete the transaction.
This suggests that using Kounde at right back is a part of the strategy behind signing him. As it stands, Azpilicueta is our lone backup for Reece James at wing back down that side, so if Azpi leaves, purchasing a backup would be absolutely necessary, unless we’re content with Kounde playing right back in a back 4.
