Just in: Tuchel finally reveals the kind of striker Chelsea needs

Chelsea have been linked with four different top class strikers over the summer transfer window.

Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Robert Lewandowski have all been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. However, nothing has come out yet of those moves.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted that the club is working hard to get its targets for the new season and revealed that the striking position is one they are keen on strengthening.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Tottenham, Thomas Tuchel admitted that Chelsea need to replace Olivier Giroud, who has since joined Serie A side AC Milan.

From Tuchel’s analysis of what he wants in a striker, it’s clear that his number one choice is Lukaku, although Lewandowski and Haaland also possess similar traits.

“I think with the exit of Olivier Giroud, we could use a player who is used to playing with his back towards the goal, whose strengths are to keep maybe possession from long balls, that we can add this direct style of play to our portfolio,” the Chelsea manager said.

“This is a characteristic of player that is not Timo [Werner], is not Tammy [Abraham], is not Kai [Havertz]. This is a profile that we don’t have in the squad and could be useful but not for any cost and not in panic because no matter what happens, we will be competitive and we have trust in our guys.

“We have trust that we can still develop, we still have young players in the offensive part of the game from whom we demand that they need to improve and we’re relaxed and very well aware of our situation at the same time.”
