Koulibaly reveals Didier Drogba’s secret message as Chelsea held negotiations with €65m-rated Serie A centre-back

Kalidou Koulibaly was acquired by Chelsea from Napoli over the summer in a £33 million move.

However, The Senegal international has stated that Didier Drogba welcomed him to the club after he joined Chelsea.

Koulibaly, who used to watch the Ivorian icon in his youth, has expressed his joy at the message he got.

“When I was younger, I used to watch Chelsea games, like when Didier Drogba came from Marseille to Chelsea,” said Koulibaly.

“Then they won the Champions League & he scored the penalty, it was everything on my mind, so when I signed for Chelsea he texted me, I was really happy.”

Meanwhile, Koulibaly called Chelsea legend John Terry to ask for his blessings to don the No. 26 jersey at Chelsea.

“The 26 was very special to me, I really appreciate you calling,” Terry said in response.

“It’s no problem for me for you to take it, absolute pleasure. I wish you well because I know how important the number was for me and I’ve seen you wear 26 as well.

“My pleasure mate, I give you the 26.”

Terry added: “No pressure mate. You go and keep winning trophies for us.”

Chelsea held talks with €65m-rated Serie A centre-back

Man City join Chelsea and Tottenham in pursuing Milan Skriniar, who will be a free agent next summer if he does not extend his current deal at Inter Milan. Slovakia international has been a world-class performer during his time in Serie A, and it’s unsurprisingly led to rumours of interest from other top teams across Europe.

At the moment, the Nerazzurri are in talks with Milan trying to extend his deal so we’ve to see how it will end up. His current contract expires in 2023 and I’m sure many teams would love a top footballer like this as a free agent, but we’ll have to see what happens with his negotiations with Serie A giants.

Skriniar looks like he could be a good fit for the Blues at the moment, even if they did invest in the signings of Wesley Fofana and Koulibaly in the summer. Chelsea lost Rudiger and Christensen this summer, while Silva surely cannot go on playing week in, week out at the highest level for much longer.

Man City already have some world-class options in central defence, such as Ruben Dias, but it seems Pep Guardiola’s side could enter the market for another big name in Skriniar. It’s not often a quality player like this is available for free, so it could make sense for City to swoop in for this big chance. Tottenham, meanwhile, might also benefit from signing the Slovakian.
