Lampard confirms injury blow with Chelsea pair set to miss up to three games

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that both Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi will be out for the next two weeks following the results of scans.

Ziyech picked up a hamstring problem in the 3-1 win over Leeds last weekend while Hudson-Odoi sustained his own hamstring injury in training. Lampard sounded positive about the news, suggesting that they could have been out for longer:

“Both players are hopefully going to be missing for around two weeks. They had scans yesterday and they’re showing it will be about two weeks so I think that’s positive, particularly with Hakim. With Callum, we didn’t know what to expect because it was an injury he got in training a couple of days ago.”

Despite Lampard’s positivity, it does mean that Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi could miss up to three games: the away trips to Everton and Wolves, as well as the home game against West Ham on the 21st December. It will be hoped that both players will be available again when Chelsea face Arsenal in the London derby on Boxing Day later this month.

With the Blues missing two wingers, it’s likely that Lampard will continue utilising Timo Werner from the left-hand side, with either Christian Pulisic or Kai Havertz playing off the other flank.
