Lampard reveals how he hijacked Timo Werner from Liverpool as he speaks about him

Frank Lampard has finally opened up for the first time about how he was able to convince Timo Werner to join the club.

Timo Werner was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp having had multiple conversations with the 24-year-old.

At the end, it was Chelsea who won the race to sign the German striker, and Lampard has revealed he held talks with Werner and convinced him about the project at Chelsea which was enough to convince him to play for the club.

“I think he is clearly a player we liked,” said Lampard. “I have certainly followed him for a while just as a talented player before I took this job.

“He will strengthen us, he is a huge talent who had a fantastic season. I had good conversations with Timo personally. He understands our project and what we want to do as a club.

“We’re pleased he’s decided to come to us and look forward to him joining next season.”

He added: “I spoke to him and he is excited. He is looking to finish his season first, but he is the type of player we are looking at. “The talent he has and work ethic is what shone through.”
