According to reports, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Edouard Mendy from Rennes, as the deal was announced on Thursday by the club.
Chelsea made the move for the highly-rated Senegal international, following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s poor stint so far at the club.
Chelsea fans will be hoping to see Mendy in action soon, but Blues boss Frank Lampard has revealed that the 28-year-old goalkeeper won’t be available for the game this weekend, having only just signed up for the club.
“To start tomorrow, is not going to happen,” Lampard said when asked about Mendy’s chances of replacing Kepa at West Brom.
“He has had a long week and not really trained. ‘He flew in yesterday and it is too tight of a turnaround to start.”
Meanwhile, Mendy in an interview with the club has declared that he’s fit and itching to play for the club soon.
Mendy hasn’t played a competitive game in a month, and when asked if he was fit, he replied: “Yes, I’m fit. Even though I haven’t played a match for a while I’ve been training as usual with Rennes. I have played an in-house match too in training recently, so I’m feeling good.’
