Lampard to make second summer signing and bring striker to Chelsea this summer

Chelsea could be ready to make a second bid for Napoli talisman Dries Mertens – after it emerged he has NOT signed a new deal with the Italians. Chelsea were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago.

But despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new Chelsea signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.

And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new striker will be a priority for the Blues boss, as he needs to add a top-class forward to help Tammy Abraham out with the goals, with Mertens constantly linked with a free move to Stamford Bridge.

Now Italian newspaper Gazetto dello Sport claims the coronavirus outbreak halted Mertens, who was about to put pen to paper on a new deal at Napoli, and he is now considering getting out of Italy in the summer, with the report now claiming That could pave the way for Blues boss Frank Lampard to step in and make the Belgian his second signing.

Lamps has already wrapped up a £38million deal for Ajax star Hakim Ziyech, which is already seen as a world class buy, and with it shaping up to be a busy summer at Stamford Bridge, Mertens could be the next name into the club.

Lampard knows that he does not need a striker for the long-term, he just needs one to come in and help Abraham out throughout the season and landing a top-class striker like Mertens for free, how could he miss out on that opportunity?

So it could be a good move, if they manage to secure a transfer deal.
