“Let’s keep him” – Forgotten Chelsea midfielder hoping to stay at the club

These are uncertain times for footballers right now, with June fast approaching and many of them set to become free agents.

They can’t even have face to face conversations with their managers to decide their futures. But even still, there are a few Chelsea players who will need their fates decided sooner rather than later.

One of those players is midfielder Marco van Ginkel, who has been struggling with injuries in a stuttering career so far. The 27-year old has been at Chelsea since 2013 and has had three different loan clubs, whilst never being able to establish himself as a Chelsea player.

He is now back fully fit and ready to go again when it is safe to play, but his Chelsea contract runs out in June, so his story here could finally be over. However, his latest words suggests that he hopes to have one last chance at Stamford Bridge.

As reported by Football Oranje, van Ginkel said:

“I have no idea what is going to happen. Chelsea should let me know what it plans to do next month. I’ll call them in a few weeks.

“No, seriously: I don’t know. Due to the current crisis, it may just be that a lot is changing in terms of contracts and salaries in football. These are uncertain times for many people. We’ll just wait and see.” “They can also think; we have invested a lot in that boy and now he is finally fit. Let’s keep him.”
