Midfielders like Frank Lampard are a rare breed and very hard to find. This is why we sit up and take note when a player is described as being a similar style to the Chelsea legend.
You take notice even more when the person describing him is a former Chelsea player who played alongside Lampard, Jesper Gronkjaer. The former Chelsea winger has been talking about a young Ajax player on the rise in Holland, Donny van de Beek.
The midfielder came through the impressive youth system at Ajax and has been there since 2008. But now at 23-years old, he looks set to make his big career move to one of Europe’s big clubs.
As per The Daily Mirror, van de Beek is wanted by Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Ajax are finally willing to sell him this summer for the right offer. But Gronkjaer would rather see him join Chelsea or Tottenham, who he believes are better suited for him at this time.
As per the same report, Gronkjaer said:
“For his style of play alone, clubs like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a better fit. “They are still top clubs and he is more like Frank Lampard, that kind of player. He is a big guy, box-to-box and takes good long shots, but he is not as technically gifted as other players that have come from Ajax. He is a player you can always get a certain level from.”
