Willian replacement found as Chelsea ‘are ready to sign’ Dutchman after Aulas concedes exit on the cards

Shock reports have claimed Chelsea are ready to bring former Manchester United star Memphis Depay back to the Premier League.

Manchester United decided to offload Depay in 2017 after the winger failed to make the kind of impact that many expected after his big money move to Old Trafford, but the Dutchman has re-established himself in France with some eye-catching patches of form and his performances have actually linked him with a move back to the Premier League.

That led to speculation that both Arsenal and Liverpool may be interested in trying to secure a transfer deal last summer, especially as both clubs were looking to add something different to their attacks during the summer window.

But in the end of the Dutchman stayed put at the French side, but his performances, and goals, this season has once again liked him with a move back to the Premier League, with Chelsea now reportedly interested in a deal. Spanish website Todofichajes claim Chelsea are considering an approach with the Holland international’s contract set to expire in June 2021.

It is no secret that Chelsea are in need of adding Willian’s replacement to the side in the summer window with the Brazilian leaving the club after failing to agree a new contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

And Chelsea have been boosted by the fact The suspension of all sporting events in France has seen Lyon fail to qualify for European football next season having finished seventh, with Depay keen to play in the games biggest competition. And the club’s outspoken president owner Jean-Michel Aulas has already conceded that Depay, 26, could leave without Champions League or Europa League football next term.

Depay has been very impressive since he left United just a few seasons ago and has become a real star over at Lyon, but the French League is not the Premier League and Depay has already proven that he is not cut out for the Premier League.

If Chelsea could manage to get him for a cut-priced fee, then yes he could be a good squad member to have in the side. But he is not really that type of player to come in and get the other Premier League sides worried. Chelsea are not the only clubs interested though and he could end up back in the Premier League if the Blues fail to make a move.
