Paul Merson believes £30 million player linked with Chelsea is ‘super talented,’ but reveals a big problem

Wesley Fofana, a rumored Chelsea target, is a wonderful player, according to Paul Merson, but his injury record at Leicester City is a concern.

Fofana, 21, is a gifted teenager who plays for Premier League opponents Leicester City.

This month, it was rumoured that the £30 million defender is on Chelsea’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window. The Blues have set their sights on the French centre-back, yet getting Leicester to sell him will be difficult.

Paul Merson admires Fofana, a ball-playing centre-back. He has, however, brought up a point about his injury history.

During his first two seasons with Leicester, he made 45 appearances, missing a significant portion of the current campaign after breaking his leg in pre-season. In addition, the teenager had a thigh injury in his rookie season that held him out for a month. He had knee problems at his previous club, Saint-Etienne.

It seems a little early to declare him an injury risk this early in his career, especially since the fractured leg was a complete fluke. If Chelsea’s medical team becomes more interested in Fofana, it will be something to keep an eye on.

“At Leicester, I like Wesley Fofana as well. He has a lot of potential, in my opinion. “However, his injury record isn’t excellent, and Chelsea can’t afford to sign players who are prone to injury,” Paul Merson stated.

However, Chelsea must find a method to replace Rudiger, whose departure has been announced for the summer.

Fofana’s game has the same bite and ferocity as Rudiger’s, despite the fact that he’s still a young player learning his trade.

It may be said that the Leicester defender is already on par with him in terms of ball-handling abilities, but he still has a long way to go before becoming an authoritative defender like Rudiger.

He is, nevertheless, someone who is easily imaginable joining a Champions League club.
