The Blues will host Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, France’s Clement Turpin has been named as the official referee for the Champions League tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, and it was the same referee who oversaw Bayern’s 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham in the group stages.

The 37-year-old has officiated in 18 games across all competitions, including international fixtures, since the start of the 2019-20 season and has issued as many as 63 yellow cards so far.

Turpin has also issued out 3 red cards as well, with his most recent sending off coming in PSG’s 6-1 win against St.Etienne back in January. He has an average of 3.5 yellow cards per game.

Turpin has already officiated four Champions League game so far this season, including one in Chelsea’s group when Valencia triumphed 1-0 over Ajax in December.

Turpin is a top ref and is enlisted as a FIFA referee since 2010 and a UEFA Elite Group referee since 2012. He has previously officiated at global tournaments like UEFA Euro 2016 and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Chelsea fans will be hoping for some fair officiating at the Bridge in this encounter as the Blues last two Premier League games have been marred by bad officiating.
