Report: 27-year-old star player set to return to Chelsea after loan spell

According to reports, Emerson is set to return to Chelsea following his loan spell at Lyon this season.

After joining the Blues in January 2018, the Italian international joined the Ligue 1 side on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window.

Despite reports that Lyon was interested in signing the defender on a permanent basis for next season, he is now poised to return to Chelsea.

Emerson will quit the French side at the end of the current season, according to Fabrizio Romano, and return to west London.

Despite this, it is said that certain teams, including Italian giants Juventus, are interested in buying the 27-year-old in a transfer from Thomas Tuchel’s side.

However, the club is unable to buy or sell players as a result of the sanctions placed on current Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, and hence ‘there is still nothing advanced.’

“I would prefer to stay here (in Lyon), I have no difficulty telling you, but it’s not up to me,” Emerson said in April.

He is anticipated to return to the Blues at the end of the season, despite his wish to stay in the French top division.

This season, he has appeared 34 times in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, as well as appearing as a substitute in Chelsea’s Premier League opening against Crystal Palace.

Maurizio Sarri, who oversaw the left-back during his stint as Chelsea manager in the 18/19 season, is said to have ‘already called’ the player about a summer move to Lazio.
