REPORT: Chelsea board set to complete £68million signing of World-Class centre-back ahead of Liverpool

According to recent reports, Chelsea are nearing an agreement to complete the transfer of Sevilla Centre-back Diego Carlos as the Blues have turned their attention to the Brazilian defender.

27-year old Brazilian defender Diego Carlos has been regarded as one of the best performing defenders in Europe in recent years and the Sevilla defender has attracted the interest of several top clubs in Europe.

However, the likes of Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona have been linked with the player but Chelsea are reportedly ahead of the chasing pack to sign the player.

Chelsea have struggled defensively this season as the Blues conceded an outrageous 54-goals in 38 league games this season. Frank Lampard has set his sights on Diego Carlos as the Chelsea boss has stated he wants a world-class defender to improve his team.

However, Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Milan Skriniar, Jose Gimenez and Kaliduo Kuolibaly but a deal for neither of those players have materialized due to the high prices. Chelsea will now look to trigger the £68million release clause in Diego Carlos’ contract with Sevilla as the Blues are keen to wrap up the deal.

Diego Carlos is exactly what Chelsea needs in defence as he is an defensive enforcer, Very physical, He has an excellent reading of the game and he is also comfortable on the ball with is passing range which will be a huge asset to the Blues.

Diego Carlos is obviously better than Chelsea’s current defenders and his addition to the side will bring in massive quality to Chelsea’s backline which has been mostly disastrous this season. Chelsea are poised to complete the £68million deal ahead of Liverpool and the transfer could be completed in the coming days.
