REPORT: Former Chelsea coach ‘WANTS’ Frank Lampard’s job

Former Chelsea coach Eddie Newton has revealed his desire to become Chelsea boss after he bagged his first silverware as a manager.

Newton quit his role in Frank Lampard’s Chelsea backroom staff in January to join Turkish side Trabzonspor as assistant to Huseyin Cimsir and was then appointed as caretaker boss when Cimsir was sacked before the club’s final two games.

The Englishman was then giving the Chelsea job on a permanent basis after guiding Trabzonspor to a 2-1 victory over Kayserispor to secure second-place in the Super Lig before defeating Alanyaspor 2-0 in the Turkish Cup Final.

“Everyone knows where my heart is, I love Chelsea and I’m not going to deny that,” Newton told the Sun.

“It would be foolhardy to say I’m not. I wouldn’t close myself off. If they came then great but we’ll see. I am open to all offers.

“Why wouldn’t you want to work in the Premier League? You want to work against the best.

“I wanted to play against the best when I was a player and it’s the same as a manager.

“It’s arguably the best league in the world and some of the best coaches in the world are operating in the Premier League.”
