Report: Lionel Messi finally reacted to Chelsea Interest in signing him
According to reports, Barcelona officially announced over the weekend that six time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi won’t be staying with them this season,
Messi became a free agent last month as the Spanish side and the Argentine great tried to work out terms on a new contract.
Despite deciding on taking a paycut, Barcelona couldn’t afford the 33-year-old’s wages, and they both had to go their separate ways, with the club citing financial and structural issues as the cause.
At the time the news broke out, news from Spain claimed that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who had always been a fan of Messi had made moves for the superstar to join Chelsea.
According to AS, the Russian billionaire made moves to hijack any possible deal for Messi and requested to speak with Messi’s representatives.
Messi is now on his way to PSG, but he confirmed on Sunday that nothing has been finalised yet. He indeed admitted that many clubs reached out to him.
Asked whether he will now join PSG following his departure from Barca, an emotional Messi said in a farewell speech on Sunday: “It is a possibility, but as of today there is nothing agreed with anyone.
“When the statement came out, I had many calls, various clubs were interested. But I have nothing closed yet. But we are talking.”
