REPORT: Premier League rival ready to use Rudiger’s contract situation at Chelsea to sign defender

According to latest reports, Chelsea have failed to reach an agreement with defender Antonio Rudiger over signing a new contract with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

Rudiger, who reportedly earns around £100,000 a week at Chelsea, wants his wages to be doubled but the Blues are reluctant about meeting his demands.

According to Daily Express, Premier League side Tottenham could reignite their interest in Rudiger if the defender doesn’t sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham tried to sign Rudiger during Jose Mourinho’s spell in charge and are thought to remain interested, despite signing Cristian Romero from Atalanta this summer.

He had fallen out of favour under previous boss Frank Lampard before his Chelsea career was resurrected by Thomas Tuchel.

“I was close [to leaving],” Rudiger said when questioned about his future in March.

“There were really two teams, maybe one team I was considering – that was PSG to be honest.

“There was [a] call also with Mourinho, but this is something at the end of the day that didn’t happen.”
