REPORT: Tuchel set to ‘force’ player to stay after his stunning performance in Super Cup victory

The young player Trevoh Chalobah played the full 120 minutes for Chelsea in their Super Cup victory last night and not only that, he was one of the best players on the park.

He has also been one of Chelsea’s best players of pre-season so far, and as a result, he has really given Thomas Tuchel and his staff a welcome headache.

The thought largely was that Chalobah would be going on loan this season with Valencia most interested. Of course this still could be the case, however, Tuchel has admitted that Chalobah has now forced his way into their thinking.

Trevoh Chalobah has met with Thomas Tuchel before this match. They agreed for maximum game time to go out on loan with Valencia one club in the mix. Also, Tuchel has told #CFC not to sell him. The fact that Chalobah is so versatile could mean that Tuchel decides to keep him in the squad, being an asset anywhere across the back and also in centre midfield.

After the game last night, Tuchel was full of praise for the Chelsea youngster and he admitted that he is yet to make a decision and Chalobah’s performances might have changed their thinking.

As reported by WAGNH, Tuchel said:

“He played good against Arsenal and he played a good game also against Bournemouth, then Arsenal, then Tottenham. We wanted to have guys on the field who are capable to play 90 minutes. Trevoh was first in training the very first in training and is physically strong and deserved to play by his performances so far and again today he was very strong.

“He suffered in some moments but later with Azpi by his side and Jorgi close to him and helping him in tactical organisation he stepped again up. He never lost face and stayed calm and was physical enough to play 120 minutes. It was quite impressive.

“Absolutely […] he forced his way into our thinking. Let’s see how it goes. We still have some days to decide his personal future but in the moment he shows his value to the team.”
