REVEALED: 7 strong reasons why Chelsea failed to beat Everton as Blues title hopes fades
Chelsea are now four points behind Manchester City after the 1-1 draw against Everton on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.
However, The Blues have failed to keep a clean sheet in December and are now in danger of falling off the title race.
Below are 7 major reasons why Chelsea failed to beat Everton:
NOT CLINICAL IN FRONT OF GOAL: Chelsea had lots of chances in the first half against Everton but went into the break goalless. The Blues could easily have scored 3 goals in the first half but weren’t clinical in front of goal.
LACK OF WIDTH: Chelsea’s lack of width in games is becoming frustrating. Time and time again, we see the wing-backs come infield without any winger manning the wings. Width is needed if you want to open up a team defending deep. The few time we played with width, we were brilliant but we didn’t do it enough.
LACK OF FORWARD RUNS FROM THE FRONT THREE: The lack of forward runs from our front three against Everton was really frustrating to watch. No one was making runs behind the defenders, they were all coming deep to receive the ball to feet. Defenders hate balls behind and prefer forwards to receive the ball to feet.
TOO MANY SIDE PASSES AND PLAYING TOO CAUTIOUS: Forward passes and not side passes are what opens a defence. Despite needing to score, the Blues kept passing the balls sidewards when we could make a forward pass.
TUCHEL STICKING WITH THE 3-4-3: With Chelsea going through a poor run and Everton missing too many key players, this was the perfect game to try out a new formation. Teams have worked out how to play against our 3-4-3 and switching to something different would have been perfect. It’s also strange Tuchel never tries to change the formation during a game.
BRINGING ON SAUL NIGUEZ: What was Tuchel thinking? Saul Niguez is yet to have a good game for the Blues and Tuchel brings the Spaniard on with the Blues looking for a goal. As usual, Saul disappointed and we just wonder what Tuchel was thinking.
WRONG SUBSTITUTIONS: Tuchel has been accused of wrong substitutions and the German was guilty of that again against Everton. Why take off Ruben Loftus-Cheek who was growing into the game? Why bring on Saul Niguez who is yet to have a good game for the Blues? If N’Golo Kante was fit enough to make the bench, why didn’t the France international get on the pitch in the second half? Makes no sense bringing on Trevoh Chalobah when the Blues needed a goal.
