REVEALED: Why Chelsea transfer target Jadon Sancho is on the bench for Dortmund vs Schalke

Chelsea target Jadon Sancho has been named on the substitutes bench for Borussia Dortmund’s clash with local rivals Schalke ahead of the return of the Bundesliga this afternoon.

After nine weeks without football in Germany because of the coronavirus pandemic, the top-flight is poised to return this afternoon, with 12 of the division’s 18 clubs in action, including Dortmund.

Chelsea supporters would have been hoping to catch a glimpse of transfer target Sancho, who is being closely linked with a move to Stamford Bridge ahead of the next transfer window, to see just what he may be able to offer to Frank Lampard’s team ahead of next season.

However, the 20-year-old, who has been a revelation in the Bundesliga this season, has not been included in the starting line-up, only making the substitutes bench. That is because the winger, who has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, picked up a minor injury during the week as Dortmund put their final preparations in place ahead of the season resuming.

Though he has not been deemed fit enough to start the Revierderby, the winger has been named on the bench, suggesting he could play a part in the contest if needed by Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre.

Sancho, over the last few months, has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Manchester United expressing great levels of interest in signing the England international. Dortmund, according to a report earlier today, will be willing to let the winger leave in the next transfer window if they receive a fee somewhere in the region of £100million.

Sancho has expressed his desire to return to England but is not willing to think about his long-term future until the current campaign has been concluded.
