Revealed: Why Kai Havertz gave up his £9m bonus to make Chelsea transfer happen

Chelsea have completed the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, According to German media outlet Sport Bild, Kai Havertz has passed up on his cut of the transfer fee written into his contract to facilitate his transfer to Chelsea.

As a result, the £9m fee that was due to be paid to the player was instead received by Bayer Leverkusen.

It ended up being a win-win solution: Bayer did not have to share the money with their former player, while the latter has become one of the largest earners at Chelsea anyway.

According to the report, Havertz is set to earn around £18m per year at Stamford Bridge after signing a five-year deal with Chelsea.

According to the people who know him well, though, Kai is not one of those players who are most interested in money, and the Chelsea fans will hope to see evidence of that in the coming season.
