Revealed: Why Roman Abramovich came to watch Chelsea match with ‘armed bodyguards and guns’

According to reports, Roman Abramovich bought over Chelsea as a young man, just at the age of 36. However, The young billionaire fell in love with football, and decided to express that love on Chelsea.

19 years after, the love affair is expected to come to an abrupt end, as the Russian has now put Chelsea up for sale.

Surely, Chelsea fans will not want to lose their owner, as the 55-year-old has taken a different approach compared to other Premier League club owners – his passion and love for the club is clear for all to see, and it didn’t take long for some Blues fans to come up with the name ‘Roman’s army’.

West Ham vice-chairman Baroness Karen Brady has revealed what she thought of Abramovich when she first him, and what she thinks of him now.

Brady has revealed how the Chelsea owner turned up at Birmingham City’s ground accompanied by ‘guns and armed bodyguards’ in his early years in the UK.

Writing in The Sun, Brady said: “I was in place at Birmingham City when Abramovich came to watch as we played Chelsea in the FA Cup.

“There were rumours he was a dodgy man with dodgy money. I was told he had a jet permanently parked on a runway in case he had to escape from anyone or anything.

“He arrived with armed bodyguards and we had to point out it was against the law to carry guns in the UK.

“But everyone associated with Chelsea, including him, displayed nothing but professionalism and respect.”
