REVEALED: Why Timo Werner is different from Didier Drogba and Diego Costa

Chelsea signed a top striker in Timo Werner, as the Blues splashed out nearly £50m to sign up the 24-year-old German international from RB Leipzig.

Werner announced himself to the Premier League, with two stunning goals against Southampton, and the 24-year-old has been hailed by many pundits in England ever since.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has revealed what makes Werner different from previous Chelsea strikers Diego Costa and Didier Drogba, as well as Olivier Giroud.

“Timo Werner is a departure for Chelsea in terms of the profile of their strikers,” former Blue Cascarino writes in his column for The Times.

“In the Roman Abramovich era they have typically bought strong, robust forwards with aerial prowess to lead the line such as Didier Drogba, Olivier Giroud and Diego Costa.

“In Werner, they have a dynamo who loves to run in behind and thrives in one-on-one situations.

“We saw his full potential with his two goals against Southampton and his performance only underlines the fact that, at £47.5 million, Chelsea have got a serious bargain.”
