According to Sky Germany, Premier League rivals Manchester United actually submitted an initial bid for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner before Chelsea did.
Following Manchester United’s offer for Werner, Chelsea reportedly quickly submitted a follow-up bid and offered Werner a larger salary than Manchester United had offered the 24 year old striker.
Chelsea reportedly offered Werner wages of around £200,000 a week, better than what rivals Manchester United had offered the RB Leipzig striker.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch believe Werner and Tammy Abraham can compliment each other.
“I think [Werner] can play off Tammy Abraham, I think he’s got that much ability,” the 39-year-old told talkSPORT.
“Obviously he can play through the middle but he definitely can play on the wings as well so I don’t think it will affect [Abraham] too much.
“I think Tammy’s done enough to warrant his choice as No 1 striker at the minute and I think they’ll complement each other if anything.”
