Right or wrong? Premier League football experts finally reacts to Anthony Taylor red card decision on Reece James

Following the 1-1 draw game between Liverpool and Chelsea, Referee Anthony Taylor gave Liverpool a penalty just before half-time and sent off Chelsea defender Reece James during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Saturday.

Below is how the football community reacted to Taylor’s decision to send off James.

Former England striker and Leicester City legend Gary Lineker tweeted: “Penalty yes, but red card? Not for me. Came off his thigh first.”

Chief football writer at The Independent, Miguel Delaney, tweeted: “That is basically a double punishment for one unintentional handball. Fair enough the penalty is given, of course.”

Writer at TalkChelsea, Simon Phillips, tweeted: “Reece James sent off by Anthony Taylor for not chopping his right arm off and letting the ball hit it…”

Chief writer at Manchester Evening News, Samuel Luckhurst, tweeted:

“Anthony Taylor seemed far too quick watching that replay. Correct call with the penalty but the red card seemed excessive. James moved his arm onto the ball but ricochet beforehand is key. Chelsea anger understandable.”
