Chelsea are apparently very interested in Gerson, the Flamengo midfielder. Fox Sports in Brasil, apparently lined up with Borussia Dortmund as the two European teams in closest contact with the potent 23 year old.
Given we’ve already seen that Chelsea are willing to spend in this transfer window, it shouldn’t be too surprising that we’re not done yet, despite the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
But regardless of how much actual cash we’re ready to part with, signing another central midfielder would surely mean the departure of one of those already in the squad.
With N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic all occupying the senior positions, and Billy Gilmour and Tino Anjorin pressing for minutes from the youth ranks, it makes no sense to add Gerson to the mix without a departure.
Jorginho would surely be the favourite, given there’s talk (as seen here in the Metro) that Juventus are interested in him, and given he’s not fitted too well into Frank Lampard’s team.
If we can get a good price for the former Napoli man, and get Gerson for the same or less, that’s a trade plenty of Blues would like to see us make.
