Sergio Ramos and three players Chelsea can agree a free transfer with in January

The January transfer window is open for business, giving Chelsea the opportunity to freshen up their squad.

Frank Lampard was given a massive amount of money to spend in the transfer window, and he managed to secure players that have improved the side in all areas of the pitch.

However, there is still something lacking from the squad that is putting pressure on the shoulders of Lampard, and there has been alot of speculation that he could look to buy his way out of trouble again this month.

But with no movement in the transfer window just yet, Another thing clubs can do, is negotiate pre-contract agreements with players from outside their own league who are entering the final six months of their current deals, to sign them on free transfers in the summer.

And here are a few players that the club could look to sign up on a free deal.

David Alaba: Austrian international Alaba has turned down the offer of a new contract at Bayern Munich, meaning he is almost certain to leave at the end of this season, barring a dramatic turn of events.

The defender, who can operate at either centre-back or left-back, has reportedly made demands that Bayern are not willing to meet, and with Chelsea long-term admirers of the left-back, they are in the hunt to try and get a deal done

Memphis Depay: The Dutch forward was something of a flop at Manchester United – but has rebuilt his career in some style with Lyon. where he has scored 65 goals and provided 48 assists in 157 appearances for the French club.

Depay’s form for club and country has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of PSG and Barcelona, but with Lampard looking to add something different to the squad, there is a chance to bring the Dutchman to the club.

Sergio Ramos: Vastly experienced, yes. Out-of-contract at Real Madrid this summer, yes. interested in the Premier League? Yes. This is a man that is attracting all sorts of interest.

The 34-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career with the La Liga giants, of course, but talks over a new deal are reported to have reach a stalemate, and he is heavily tipped to leave the club, meaning that Chelsea would swoop in an land a player that they have wanted for the last 8 years
