Sorry Arteta as Chelsea ready to activate £43 million clause and sign up player on £200,000-a-week deal

Chelsea have joined the race to sign long-term Arsenal target Thomas Partey as they look to strengthen in midfield.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has started to do some wonderful business this transfer window and start improving the sides of the squad that need to be improved, but he still needs to work on that midfield.

He has been linked with a move for Partey for months not, but with Madrid unwilling to let the powerful midfielder leave for anything less that £43 million, and the reports which suggest that Arsenal do not want to pay that amount of money, no deal has been completed.

Partey, 27, is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League with Arsenal, and all that Arsenal reportedly needed to do was offer the right amount of money, but now it seems that they will have Chelsea to beat off in the last few days of the window.

Reports on the TalkSport website has suggested that If they cannot sign Declan Rice, it is believed they will make a late run at the Atletico Madrid player, as his £43 million asking price is quite tempting, and are willing to meet his £200,000-a-week contract demands

It is no secret that Frank Lampard is seeking to add a bit more power to his midfield and bring in a more de3fencive minded player like Rice or Partey, but with the Hammers demanding £80 million, that move may not happen.

Arsenal fans have wanted to see Partey make the move to London all summer, but that has not happened, so if they see Chelsea swoop in at the very last minute and secure a transfer deal, they will be very disappointed.

He could be a fantastic signing for Chelsea and one player that would allow the attacking stars at the club to strut their stuff on the pitch.
