According to reports, Chelsea have won the race to sign Frenkie de Jong, who are close to reaching a £67.6 million agreement with Barcelona.
However, De Jong has been a player who has frequently been in the news over the previous six months as all signs pointed to him leaving Barcelona.
Barcelona is allegedly eager to offload De Jong in order to recover some of the money they spent recently on new player acquisitions. This assertion has been made numerous times.
As they attempt to rebuild the team, Barcelona has spent a lot of money on players like Raphinha, Jules Kounde, and Robert Lewandowski; the £60M they may make from the sale of De Jong would go a long way.
Due to Thomas Tuchel’s desire to strengthen his midfield, this has led to shocking media reports that Chelsea have made an approach to attempt and obtain the services of De Jong this summer.
Sport reports that Chelsea and Barcelona are currently in advanced negotiations for a £67.6 million trade.
They claim that although the Blues have only recently begun negotiations to sign the Dutch midfielder, they have moved rapidly to try to do so.
Man United, who were eager to recruit De Jong, will be devastated by the news.
