Talented defender ‘has declared his love’ for Chelsea and wants to be at Stamford Bridge

Andreas Christensen has declared his “love” for Chelsea, with the defender keen for a longer stay at Stamford Bridge.

There has been alot of speculation about the possible signings that Frank Lampard will continue to make during the summer transfer window, with reports that a new central defender and left-back may be required by the boss.

That would mean that the likes of Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Antonio Rudiger would all have to fight for a spot in the Chelsea side, and with defenders usually playing 90 per cent of the games, a new central defender could hinder their development under Lampard.

However, amid talk that he is in talks with Chelsea about a new contract, Christensen has declared his “love” for Chelsea, with the defender keen for a longer stay at Stamford Bridge.

“I’ve never looked anywhere else,” Christensen, who has two years left on his contract, told Sky Sports . “I’ve never doubted my situation. I’ve always had my eyes at Chelsea.

“I’ve had my contract and I’ve always expected to finish that and I’ve always dreamed of even more than that. Nothing has changed. “Obviously it was a different situation last season but I still love being here, that’s the short answer.”

There is no doubt that Christensen is a very good young defender, but he lacks a leader next to him at the back and Chelsea will seriously need to consider their option in the transfer window if they really want to close that gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

The result against West Ham during mid-week just shows that the club are still in need of a top defender at the back.
