“There’s something wrong, he’s not happy” – Joe Cole says of Chelsea player after 1-1 draw against Brighton
Following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on tuesday night, The Blues legend Joe Cole believes Hakim Ziyech isn’t a happy man after the winger failed to celebrate his goal.
However, The 28-year-old scored just his second Premier League goal of the season, opening the scoring at the Amex before the Blues conceded to an Adam Webster header in the second half.
Joe Cole told BT Sport: “This is what you play for,” “He’s a fantastic talent, he probably hasn’t hit the ground running in the Premier League, it’s very different to the Dutch league, you see him in duels and he can be stronger.
“What you can’t question is his ability, on the ball he’s second to none, his technique, he’s a fantastic player.
“But the not celebrating, it doesn’t sit well, just for him as a lad. if he was in my team I’d be getting him and saying, ‘come on!’”
He added: “When lads are not happy, not playing, if you come off the bench and score the goal it’s a release of energy.
“He would have been thinking in his mind that it’s a message to management [by not celebrating], but the message is the goal. 1-0 up in the Premier League with a great goal, enjoy it.
“He’s obviously got things that he’s not happy with but keep doing what you’re doing on the pitch, affect the game and you’ll be playing regularly.”
