Todd Boehly has set new deadline to hire sporting director with ‘Talks’ underway with Bundesliga Chief

According to the Evening Standard‘s Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly wants a new sporting director in place before the World Cup in November.

However, Boehly took on the job on an interim basis following the departure of Marina Granovskaia in the summer, but he is keen for someone to take over from him soon:

Kinsella claims the current favourite for the position is Bayer Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten, with “talks” set to be held with the 43-year-old to determine whether he is keen on taking on the role.

There are believed to be a number of names on the Blues’ list of potential candidates, after Red Bull Salzburg’s Christoph Freund turned down an approach from the London club earlier this month.

At the moment, though, Steidten appears to be the frontrunner. The German was Leverkusen’s head of scouting before he succeeded Simon Rolfes as the Bundesliga side’s sporting director back in July.
