Tuchel finally reveals ‘shocking reason’ for substituting Loftus-Cheek after 13mins of play against Liverpool
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed why Ruben Loftus-Cheek was replaced in the FA Cup final against Liverpool barely thirteen minutes after going on.
At the start of extra time, Loftus-Cheek came on for Christian Pulisic, but was quickly replaced by Ross Barkley.
During his post-match press conference, Tuchel explained why he took the decision.
The German denied Loftus-Cheek suffered an injury, stating instead that the substitution was because of his “bad history” with penalties.
Barkley scored his spot-kick but the Blues eventually lost 6-5 at Wembley.
Chelsea have now become the first-team ever to lose three consecutive finals.
