UPDATE: Lampard confirms Chelsea star will miss Champions League clash against Rennes tonight!

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic will miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against Rennes.

The American international suffered a hamstring injury last week, causing him to miss the win at Burnley on Saturday.

There were fears Pulisic, who missed the start of the season though injury, was facing another long spell on the sidelines but Lampard says the USA international will not be a long-term absentee.

“Christian had a scan yesterday which showed a very minor injury to his hamstring so he is already back (training) outside,” said Lampard.

“He won’t be fit for Rennes but we will see after that. It’s obviously a relief for the injury to be on a small side.

“He made the right decision to not play [at Burnley] – he’s an important player for us.

“It’s a hard thing to call [are certain players more susceptible to injuries], it’s forever a challenge, some players who have speed in their game, they can be more susceptible – it’s different for everyone.

“We were looking at ways to manage Christian last season and be proactive with him.

“He had experience of [injuries] at Dortmund. We’re working in the same direction to keep him as fit as possible because we know the talent he has.”
