‘We have to fight it’ – Tuchel finally reveals how these two clubs contributed to Chelsea’s struggles
Chelsea has been excellent for the majority of the season, but there have been some really poor periods.
Chelsea might have easily won the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League semi-finals. However, the games against Liverpool and Real Madrid were both lost in excruciating fashion.
The Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool was decided by a penalty shootout, and the Champions League quarter-final loss to Real Madrid was a frustrating departure.
Tuchel has acknowledged that games like these can cause players to lose confidence.
“If you come from big knock-out matches like at Real Madrid and Wembley, then after a busy schedule you suddenly go back to the league and play for points, and maybe the team had a bit of the feeling we didn’t have as much to win, not as much to lose, and you lose a little bit of the edge,” Blues manager said.
“It’s already enough to lose games, and then you lose a little confidence.”
“There are numerous causes for this, and it is also possible that it is normal, but normal is difficult for us to accept because we demand more than normal, and we are in a league position where normal does not carry us to the goals that we require of ourselves.”
“So we have to resist it, go against it, go against ourselves, go against our typical behavior in order to drop a little and get back on top.” It all starts with tomorrow’s physical input.”
