‘We keep struggling because of him, he’s our key player’ – Tuchel makes honest admission on Chelsea star
According too reports, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hailed N’Golo Kante as his team’s main man.
However, The France international has been a key player for Chelsea over the years, and he played a huge role last season in helping Chelsea win the Champions League.
Kante has played regular football at the top level since coming to the Premier League in 2015, but he has been battling with injury over the last two years.
Speaking ahead of the Southampton game, Tuchel was asked if the amount of football Kante has played in recent years has taken a toll, the Blues boss replied: “I don’t know. I can honestly not answer the question, this can be an ongoing debate and nobody will know if it’s like this.
“One thing is very clear, which is that N’Golo is a key player because he has outstanding qualities, unique qualities.”
Tuchel went on to hail Kante as the team’s main man, and claimed that Chelsea’s recent struggle could be tied to his drop in performance.
He went on: “For some other teams it’s maybe some strikers or central defenders, for us it’s N’Golo. He’s a unique player that can give something to the team that nobody else can.
“He struggles in this season with consistency due to injuries, due to illness, and this is also a reason for our bit of inconsistency [as a team].”
