“We welcome Saudi for.. – UK Sports minister gives his blessing to potential Saudi-based Chelsea takeover

According to latest reports, UK Sports minister Nigel Huddleston has given his backing to Saudi-based takeovers at Chelsea, stating the importance of the relationship with the Gulf Kingdom.

However, It comes as a huge encouragement for Saudi Media, one of the parties interested in buying Chelsea.

The Blues have been left in crisis after the club’s owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government due to his involvement in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

However, the West Londoners, who are currently operating under a special licence, are hopeful of finding new owners after the UK Government has allowed the sale process to continue.

Saudi Media has reportedly submitted a £2.7 billion bid to buy the Blues, with the private consortium being led by Mohamed Alkhereiji.

Alkhereiji, who is said to be a Chelsea fan, is keen on the renovation of Stamford Bridge and wants to invest in the club’s academy and women’s team.

Following the Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle United last year, Huddleston has now stated that Saudi investments would be welcomed in the country.

Huddleston told the digital, culture, media and sport select committee (h/t Guardian): “The UK’s relationship with Saudi Arabia is really important.

“Saudi Arabia is an important partner of the UK in investment, intelligence and culture. We welcome Saudi Arabian investment.

“Many, many jobs in the UK are dependent on our relationship with the Saudis but we take the opportunity to talk frankly and openly with Saudi Arabia. We can have frank exchanges because of the nature of our relationship.”
