Werner sends transfer massage to Chelsea after his stunning form against Tottenham

Timo Werner has been linked with a move to Chelsea and a number of European clubs for the 2020/21 season. Werner will be a man in demand this summer as a number of Europe’s top clubs queue up to sign the RB Leipzig ace.

Scoring goals for fun for the Bundesliga high-flyers since his move from Stuttgart in 2016, the German international was in outstanding form in his team’s Champions League win over Tottenham.

Going into the second leg 1-0 up courtesy of his 58th minute penalty at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, Julian Nagelsmann’s side progressed to the final eight of the competition with a 3-0 victory.

He was a constant thorn in Spurs’ side as he ran the back three of Japhet Tanganga, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier ragged over the course of the 90 minutes.

Werner, who has 28 goals in 40 appearances for club and country this season, will certainly have his pick of Europe’s best clubs to choose from if he does depart RB Leipzig before the summer transfer deadline. However, Frank Lampard’s side definitely need to strengthen ahead of the 2020/21 season having failed to do so this term due to their transfer ban and then their January failings.

A striker will be high up on Lampard’s shopping list as they look to sign a proven goalscorer who can shoot them to silverware on a regular basis. While Tammy Abraham has done incredibly well this season, the manager will want an experienced striker to come in and compete for a place upfront.

Oliver Giroud has also impressed in recent weeks but it’s not clear if he will stay beyond the end of his contract, with an exit for Michy Batshuayi looking on the cards if Lampard can bring a forward in.

While a move to Stamford Bridge would be appealing as Werner has previously spoken very highly about the Premier League, he may find Liverpool too hard to turn down if Jurgen Klopp moves for his fellow countryman.
