Why Lukaku has struggle at Chelsea – Mikel Obi finally reveals

After paying £97.5 million for Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea fans expected him to be the final piece of the puzzle.

Lukaku’s return to Chelsea, however, did not turn out to be the season he had hoped for.

In the 2021/22 season, the Belgian netted 8 league goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, whereas in his final campaign with Inter Milan, he netted 30 goals in the same amount of games.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi attributes it to the disparity between the two leagues.

Mikel claims that the English game moves at a much faster tempo.

“It is the league, the Premier League is too powerful, too strong, too fast, whereas Italian League is slow,” he told Naija FM.

“The pace of English football is way too much than the Italian league. In the Italian League, you can play till your 40s, but that hardly happens in the English League.”
